DX Group has opened a new 7,500ft2 depot at Toberbride Business Park in Collooney, Sligo, its first regional depot in the Republic of Ireland and the start of plans to expand operations in the country.
The new depot adds capacity for the company’s parcels operation, part of the DX Express division which provides highly secure, tracked deliveries. The new depot also improves operational efficiencies, reduces stem mileage, carbon emissions and enhances customer service levels.
According to DX, its parcels operation remains a major area of growth for the group and further capital investment is planned over the remainder of the year to support this.
Paul Ibbetson, chief executive officer of DX Group, commented, “We are pleased to be opening our first regional depot in the Republic of Ireland [ROI]. This is a statement of intent to increase the DX presence in ROI. The new depot in Sligo will provide our Express operations with greater capacity and increase capability in the area. It also helps to make us more efficient and reduces our stem mileage, which in turn will lower our overall carbon emissions.
“We have invested significantly in our depot network over the past few years and will continue this program across the group, including IT, vehicles and equipment.”
UK expansion
DX Group has opened several depots in the UK this year, including Preston, Carlisle and East Grinsted. The company is also investing £12m (US$15.3m) in a new 25,000ft2 regional hub in the East Midlands of the UK, and has opened two ‘supersites’ in Middleton in the Northwest and London Heathrow.
