Drone logistics platform Matternet has unveiled Matternet Station to send and receive medical payloads at hospital campuses.
The stations will initially serve healthcare systems in Switzerland and the USA, giving hospitals and supply partners the ability to integrate drone deliveries into their laboratory and pharmacy operations. Hospitals can move blood diagnostics, pathology specimens and medicines between their facilities using drones.
The stations are 3m (10ft) tall, keeping vehicles high enough not to compromise safety if installed in a public area. Stations are equipped with technology that guides the Matternet M2 Drone to land on the station’s platform. After landing, the station locks the drone in place and automatically swaps the battery and payload. When not in use, the drone is parked in a hangar on top of the station.
