Royal Mail has announced that it will add 6,800 vehicles to its 47,000 strong delivery fleet to help support operations over the Christmas period. The post has also decorated several of its delivery trucks in festive livery to mark the holiday season.
Royal Mail processed and delivered more than 120 million parcels in December 2014 and covered approximately 16 million miles, delivering to 27 million homes and two million businesses across the UK.
This year, Royal Mail has employed an extra 19,000 temporary workers and opened 10 temporary parcel centers to help deal with the increase in delivery volumes. The post will also run an additional 113 flights and 20 extra rail movements through December to accommodate the seasonal volumes.
Sue Whalley, chief operating officer, Royal Mail, said, “Christmas is very important to our customers and for our business. We have been planning our festive operation since the beginning of the year. What better way to remind all our customers of the protection, reliability and high quality delivery services we provide to them no matter where they live, than by branding some of our iconic fleet to celebrate this.”
