The third phase of decarbonization of DPD Portugal’s fleet has begun with the purchase of 80 100% electric Ford E-Transit vans that will be rolled out by the end of this year. The new vehicles take DPD Portugal’s current fleet of fully electric vehicles to 207 across 14 cities in the country.
The E-Transit was chosen thanks to its 300km range and 15.1m3 load capacity, as well as its advanced connectivity solutions. The new vehicles will help DPD and its parent company Geopost achieve the sustainability target of net zero by 2040.
“DPD is aware of the environmental impact of its activity and the delivery sector as a whole and is therefore committed to being at the forefront of sustainability,” explained Olivier Establet, CEO of DPD Portugal. “This new investment reaffirms our mission to decarbonize the domestic express transport market, as drivers of greener mobility and a more sustainable planet.”
The process of decarbonizing the DPD fleet began in 2019 with the incorporation of 55 electric vehicles in Lisbon. Currently, 30% of the company’s fleet is electric and this is set to rise to 35% by the end of 2024 with the addition of these new vans.
Marta Henríquez, director of Ford Pro for Spain and Portugal, commented, “With productivity and sustainability as the main axes of both companies, Ford Pro is proud to be able to collaborate with DPD in its objective of maximizing innovation in its fleet. To achieve this, we rely on the range of commercial vehicles that have been sales leaders in Europe over the last nine years, spearheaded by the E-Transit, the best-selling two-ton electric vehicle in Europe in 2023.”
