The United States Postal Service (USPS) has expanded its surface visibility program to 114 additional sites.
Surface visibility (SV) is now available at 437 sites across the USA. The expansion is part of a USPS bid to make better use of technology, in particular SV, which improves scanning and makes it easier for business customers to know where their mail is.
USPS has also expanded SV scanning capability to 65 peak annexes and five contracted sites, giving these locations more flexible technology. A new SV-specific site SVWeb has been developed, and will provide real-time transportation updates on the movement of trailers in the surface network. The data captured is used to identify early, on-time, late or canceled trips, and to evaluate and improve transportation schedules. SVWeb will replace TIMESWeb.
