Swiss Post and agricultural cooperative federation Fenaco have launched a 50/50 joint venture called PowerUp to create a nationwide fast-charging network for electric vehicles in Switzerland.
The network, which will be launched to both private customers and businesses by mid-2025 pending regulatory approval, will start with around 50 locations. This will be expanded to 300 locations and 1,500 charging points by 2030. Charging stations will be installed at Swiss Post branches, Agrola gas stations, Landi stores and other locations.
Swiss Post CEO Roberto Cirillo said, “At present, there is already good coverage of fast charging stations along main arteries. The charging networks from Swiss Post and Fenaco-Landi Group will now bring charging options for electric vehicles to villages, towns and rural areas. I am delighted that PowerUp will provide a new service for the whole of Switzerland and make a significant contribution to the Confederation’s electromobility roadmap.”
PowerUp will offer 100% Swiss renewable electricity, with much of it generated on-site by solar panels and supported by local microgrids and battery storage.
Martin Keller, CEO of Fenaco, commented, “In 2018, Agrola opened its first fast charging station at a Landi branch. Since then, we have continued to expand our network, enabling us to bring sustainable mobility to the countryside. Thanks to this partnership with Swiss Post, we can accelerate its expansion and make the network even more attractive. This will ensure that electromobility is appealing even to drivers without a charging option at home.”
The PowerUp initiative supports Switzerland’s electromobility roadmap, aiming to expand public charging stations and promote sustainable mobility. Swiss Post aims to be carbon neutral by 2030, while Fenaco has been expanding its fast-charging network since 2018.
