IDEC Group Iberica has completed the first phase of the Puerto Seco de Antequera dry port in Antequera, southern Spain, which will be the first energy-positive XXL logistics and industrial park in Europe.
The 300ha logistics park is strategically positioned near Algeciras, Malaga and Cadiz, making it a gateway to southern Europe. It is an ideal location for industrial and logistics activities due to its maritime, airport, rail and road connections.
The first-phase 37ha development includes Dry Logistic 40, a 42,000m² logistics platform that can be divided into two 21,000m² independent areas. Boasting the highest environmental, quality and safety standards, Dry Logistic 40 is aiming for BREEAM Level Excellent certification. It will feature a floor load of 5 tons/m², a clear height of 12m, three levels of tertiary spaces, a concrete structure, 44 docks, a reinforced roadway and a fire system that meets NFPA standards, as well as several lots for inter-service centers.
Adel Kaddour, managing director of Groupe IDEC International, said, “Puerto Seco de Antequera, where the first phase of development has just been completed, stands out for two significant reasons aside from the large-scale size of the project. Its location in the south of Spain, with its many road, rail and sea links, makes it a fantastic gateway to southern Europe. From the outset, this XXL development has also benefited from the expertise of our subsidiary IDEC Energy Iberica in designing and building a facility that remains truly in line with sustainable development practices.
“At the heart of the Puerto Seco de Antequera park, an innovative and alternative energy combination is taking shape that will provide an extensive energy share grid system. Thanks to the compatible integration of battery storage, designed to regulate consumption, and the cutting-edge production of green hydrogen, we are creating an autonomous and resilient energy ecosystem. This forward-looking vision maximises the efficiency of renewable energies, drives optimal management of surplus energy and makes Puerto Seco de Antequera a benchmark in the transition to a low-carbon economy. This energy adventure, in which every innovation paves the way for smarter energy distribution and supports the decarbonisation of various sectors, marks the advent of a sustainable future.”
IDEC Group Iberica and its partners have designed Puerto Seco de Antequera as a showcase for energy efficiency. By implementing a diverse and complementary energy mix from local suppliers, the logistics, industrial and utilities zone aims to encourage the local production and sharing of energy among users. The surplus energy will be used to produce renewable hydrogen.
