Royal Mail’s Address Management Unit (AMU) has achieved the Investors in People Gold Award for its efforts in staff recognition, leadership skills and learning and development.
AMU is the first department within the postal operator to achieve such recognition. The AMU team manages Royal Mail’s address databases, including the Postcode Address File (PAF).
Investors in People was established in 1991 by the UK government to help organizations get the best from their people. Based in Sunderland and Portsmouth, the 70-strong AMU team began working through the accreditation framework three years ago. It achieved the Standard Award in 2013 and the Silver Award the following year.
Steve Rooney, head of Royal Mail’s AMU, said, “Trying to establish a single team at two different sites based 340 miles apart can be a challenge. We began working with Investors in People to solidify our working practices and improve engagement and cross communication. The Gold Accreditation is testament to the dedication and hard work that the teams have put in.”
Simon Allsop, Investors in People Central England, said, “Feedback from staff across all areas of the AMU [is] evidence [of] an organization which is more trusting, open and, in turn, effective. Processes are firmly embedded and management is effective. Leadership is inspirational and managers are trusted. People actively challenge in the pursuit of business goals and improved performance. People increasingly own their areas of responsibility and clearly take pride in their work.”
