The Otto management board has named Marc Opelt as its chairman. Previously spokesperson for the board, Opelt is its first ever chairman.
Opelt joined Otto Group in 1990 as marketing assistant and was promoted to department head of catalog marketing hardware two years later. He went on to play a major role in setting up the former group company OTTO Office and became part of the management of Eddie Bauer in Munich, Germany, in 2000.
In 2002, he moved to Seattle, Washington, USA, as divisional vice president for the direct business of retail store Eddie Bauer USA. He also took over the responsibility for multi-channel marketing, including the stores, as vice president and representative for the direct business on the Management Board. Opelt returned to Germany in 2005 as managing director of the Baur Group for marketing, sales, advertising and e-commerce. In 2009, he was also appointed CEO.
Since August 1, 2012, Opelt has been Otto board member for sales and since January 1, 2017, also spokesperson of the Otto management board.
Marcus Ackermann, member of the Otto Group executive board, said, “Marc has been a crucial driver for the development of Otto for years. We would like to thank him expressly for his commitment and look forward very much to continuing our successful cooperation.”
