Posti Group has elected Markku Pohjola as the new chairman of the board and Suvi-Anne Siimes as vice chairman.
Pohjola previously held several management positions at financial services firm Nordea and its predecessors MeritaNordbanken, Merita and Suomen Yhdyspankki. He has been a member and chairman of several corporate boards, most recently at IT firm Tieto. Currently Pohjola is chairman at financing company Finnvera and wood procurement firm Koskitukku. He is also a member of the board at building and property firm Onvest.
“It is very interesting and inspiring to come to Posti, which is in a good development stage and offers a wide variety of services and many opportunities for the Finnish consumers,” said Pohjola. “Posti’s board and employees have taken important steps in renewing the company with regards to the transformation of digitization.”
Current chairman Arto Hiltunen has been a board member since 2010, first as vice chairman and then chairman since 2011. According to Finnish ownership policy, the maximum term for a board member in a state-owned company is 5-7 years.
“My six years as chairman have been rewarding and a lot has happened,” said Hiltunen. “Posti has moved toward becoming a service company and has gone through a major transformation. This includes several performance improvement programs, organizational changes, a remarkable cultural change, and a new vision and strategy. It changed its name back to Posti from Itella, has undertaken several mergers and acquisitions, decreased the number of postal outlets, and renewed its mail delivery. I wish my successor good luck in his work and the all the best for everyone at Posti.”
