GeoPost/DPDgroup has announced the passing of chairman and CEO Boris Winkelmann, who was also a member of Le Groupe La Poste’s executive board.
Winkelmann had been CEO of GeoPost/DPDgroup since 2020 and accelerated the international expansion of GeoPost/DPDgroup, particularly in Asia and in the Middle East. He was also heavily involved in carbon-free delivery projects. The group generated nearly €15bn (US$16.9bn) in revenues this year.
After studying at the Ecole Supérieure de Commerce in Bordeaux, France, he completed his education with a master’s degree in finance at the Universidad Pontifica Cornillas in Madrid, Spain. From 1994, he acquired experience in the parcel and express delivery market. After starting his career in management positions at TNT Express, he joined GeoPost in 1999 to coordinate the acquisition of a majority stake in DPD Germany. He was then particularly involved in the international development of the Group.
Winkelmann then spent the next 10 years working on an entrepreneurial project. He co-founded and managed the online shipping service LetMeShip, market information and research service CEP-Research and ITA consulting, a merger and acquisition consultancy.
Following this, Winkelmann joined DPD Germany in 2013 as COO and then became CEO in 2014. In 2020, he was appointed executive vice president of Le Groupe La Poste, member of Le Groupe La Poste’s executive board and chairman and CEO of GeoPost/DPDgroup.
The chairman and CEO of Le Groupe La Poste, Philippe Wahl, made the announcement, referring to Winkelmann’s reputation as a highly regarded leader. Wahl said, “Boris left a lasting impression on everyone he met with his positive and inspiring energy, his deep care for others, his insatiable curiosity and his contagious enthusiasm. Our thoughts are with his wife, his daughters and his entire family, whom we assure of our wholehearted support in this terrible tragedy. I am joined by the members of Le Groupe La Poste’s board of directors and executive board, as well as the members of GeoPost/DPDgroup’s board of directors and executive committee.”
