Nordic delivery firm PostNord has selected French automation specialist Fives Group to install two turnkey sorting systems for its facilities in Norway and Germany.
The new systems will strengthen PostNord’s network in northern and central Europe with strategic installations in a new logistics center in Drammen, Norway, and an upgrade to its existing facility in Travemünde, Germany.
Fives will tailor the sorting systems to each facility using a combination of its GENI-Belt cross-belt sorter, high speed GENI-Feed induction lines, and its EASY-Stream modular line of conveyors.
The new Norwegian center will be capable of processing 15,000 items per hour when it opens in April.
Capacity at the German hub will be boosted from manual sorting system capable of sorting 4,000 parcels per hour, to an automated facility handling 9,000 items an hour when completed later this month.
Pål Eier, head of production development at PostNord Norway, said, “Fives’ handling system will boost our capacity while meeting our complex demands when it comes to distribution.”
