A new sorting system, designed to link all core distribution center (DC) operational processes and to sort multiple flow routes simultaneously, has been handed over to fashion-retailer, Varner, at its Swedish-based DC.
The backbone of the system is a single high-speed LS-4000CB sorter from Beumer Group. This enables the DC to achieve the highest levels of logistics efficiency by accepting both pallet-loaded and loose-loaded in containers and routing any carton to a different area within the DC.
With multifunction sorting, inbound parcels can be sent either to palletizing or to the mini-load Automated Storage and Retrieval System (AS/RS), while de-palletized boxes, AutoStore and Mini-load AS/RS items can be sorted directly to shipping.
Sorter availability is maintained at 98% or higher, allowing the distribution center to continue to operate at almost full speed, even in the event of a disabled cart, belt or induction unit.
This DC-wide solution helps to increase efficiency in areas that are not usually directly linked to the sorter and provides a stronger business case than conventional roller lanes. For Varner, this flexible and responsive system supports its immediate strategic plans, in addition to providing the flexibility to respond to future needs.
