Postal operator Swiss Post has announced that it will begin realigning its range of third-party products available at all Swiss post offices from the first quarter of 2016.
In future, the range of post office products will be more closely aligned with Swiss Post’s own offerings and will include public services, insurance, and goods and services from the telecommunications sector. Established products such as books, stationery and gift cards will continue to be offered. Products from the home electronics, toy, car and household ranges will be discontinued, as will the mini-kiosks offering sweets and snacks.
Sales of third-party products generate earnings of around CHF500m (US$486m) annually for Swiss Post. The company expects that the new focus will result in a fall in sales, but sees a customer-oriented range of products and a more clearly defined market position as the key to the long-term success of its services.
