DPD Portugal has invested €30m (US$32m) in a new parcel distribution hub in Loures. It is the biggest in the country with a sorting capacity of 10,000 parcels per hour.
The new hub is part of the company’s expansion plan following growth in the country and a financially successful 2023, with a turnover of more than €101m (US$108.5m).
“We are very excited about the opening of the new hub, which responds to current demand and monitors the evolution of our customers’ needs. With this new logistics center we intend to provide increasingly faster, more reliable and sustainable delivery services. And we believe that this will be an important step for us to continue growing in Portugal, where we hope to close the year with growth of around 13%, reaching €115m [US$123.5m] in revenue,” said Olivier Establet, CEO of DPD Portugal.
The 12,000m2 hub comprises 3,100m2 of office space for 140 administrative staff and a 9,000m2 warehouse for 230 employees responsible for sorting and distributing orders. The hub has a sorting machine with a unique 405m-long crossbelt system that can manage more than 10,000 parcels per hour, destined for the Lisbon area.
The building also has one of the highest Breeam Excellent certifications and offers 120 electrical charging stations, which is essential considered that all deliveries in Lisbon and Porto have been carried out using electric vehicles since 2021 and 2023, respectively.
The new space brings together in the same location the company’s headquarters and its respective operations in the Greater Lisbon area – currently located in São João da Talha (Loures) and Olivais (Lisbon) – making this hub the largest in the country.
