DHL Parcel, a subsidiary of German logistics company Deutsche Post DHL, has unveiled its plans to invest 100m (US$110m) in establishing its own parcel network in Austria by 2016. The company has already set up operations in Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
Jürgen Gerdes, CEO of post, e-commerce, parcel at Deutsche Post DHL Group, said, “DHL Parcel is setting the standard for the highest quality, unique customer focus and excellent services in Germany’s hotly contested parcel market. And soon, we will be able to offer this to Austria’s economy and consumers as well.
“As the engine behind e-commerce, we have become a key player in an increasing number of countries. It’s now time to make e-commerce even easier, faster and more secure than ever before for everyone in the Austrian market.”
The 100m (US$110m) investment will go toward building delivery infrastructure in the country as well as recipient services such as parcel shops and Packstations. The company will look to ensure that as many parcels as possible are delivered on the first attempt to avoid redelivery costs and inconvenience. A further benefit of the new network will be a reduction in delivery times from Germany to Austria, so that online purchases will reach Austrian consumers one day after being shipped.
DHL Parcel has already moved into its Austrian headquarters in Vienna, which will be headed up by Günter Birnstingl, managing director of DHL Parcel Austria.
