In response to increasing parcel volumes, DHL Express has invested £37m (US$48m) in a new service center at Gatwick that includes a £2m (US$2.6m) automated shipment processing system to boost efficiency and organize customer shipments across the counties of Sussex, Surrey and Kent. The 10,685m2 site is expected to handle two million parcels a year.
The new site has extensive solar panels and, combined with green energy from the grid, runs on 100% renewable energy. The building also features low-use water appliances and energy-usage monitoring, as well as the infrastructure to support 90 electric vans, with 30 electric car charging spaces for employees.
Claire Leo, Gatwick Service Centre manager at DHL Express, said, “We are thrilled to open our new state-of-the-art service center in Gatwick, which will enhance our ability to meet the growing demand for express delivery services in the region. With this new facility, we are well-positioned to support the local economy and deliver the highest standards of service.”
