Austrian Post has set a new delivery record for December, delivering 1.56 million parcels in a single day. The post has averaged 800,000 parcels delivered per day in 2024.
“More than 1.56 million parcels on a single day in December is an absolute postal record,” enthused Peter Umundum, deputy CEO, parcel and logistics, Österreichische Post. “Even with these high shipment volumes, we deliver Austrians’ parcels quickly and reliably – and as requested, for example to the postal station available around the clock, with drop-off authorization to a desired location or even directly to the front room.”
Austrian Post offers an in-home delivery service in partnership with Nuki, which was award the Last-Mile Delivery Innovation of the Year award at this year’s Parcel and Postal Technology International Awards, hosted at Parcel + Post Expo in Amsterdam, Netherlands, in October.
The postal operator expects high parcel volumes to continue until Christmas Eve and anticipates it will deliver up to 54 million letters and Christmas cards during the advent period. It also expects to handle 20 million parcels this December – a 10% rise on December 2023 volumes.
