Postal operator Royal Mail has doubled the compensation that it offers to customers using its Tracked products from £50 (US$70) to £100 (US$140).
The new compensation scheme is likely to appeal to online retailers and SMEs as, according to IMRG, it exceeds the £78 (US$110) value of the average online shopping basket in 2015. The latest changes will apply to Royal Mail Tracked24, Royal Mail Tracked48, Royal Mail Tracked Returns24 and Royal Mail Tracked Return48 services.
Customers sending items of greater value can continue to use Royal Mail’s Special Delivery Guaranteed services which offer compensation of up to £500 (US$700) as standard, and up to £2,500 (US$3,500) with additional cover.
Nick Landon, managing director, Royal Mail Parcels, said, “Our Tracked products are very popular with business customers who want the flexibility to choose a 24- or 48-hour delivery service, together with a collection service and later acceptance times that allow them to meet customer expectations. So we are delighted to be increasing the compensation we offer on our suite of Tracked products. We believe this will provide even greater confidence in the products and in our ability to respond to our customers.”
