Finnish postal operator Posti has announced it will expand its alternate-day mail delivery services to Salo from October 2024, with printed mail delivered on weekdays in alternating two-week periods.
In alternate-day delivery, the mail delivery days alternate between postal code areas, which means that mail may be delivered on different days in neighboring districts. The changes will also impact addressed magazines and newspapers as well as advertisements, with orders arriving on at a different time and day of the week than before.
The plans will not affect parcel delivery, except for small parcels that fit in the mailbox or slot, which are delivered with day mail.
In Finland, regional alternate-day delivery is already in use in many areas, with similar delivery models used across the Nordic region due to the continued decrease in the volume of printed mail.
According to Posti, it will negotiate the planned changes with employees, and the possible need for changes regarding personnel will be specified as the negotiations proceed. The alternate-day model provides better opportunities for full-time work, the post stated.
