The Ministry of Communication and Postal Services in Pakistan has announced plans to establish more than 1,000 Digital Franchise Post Offices across the country by December 30, 2020.
Under the franchise program, which was launched six months ago under a public-private partnership, 120 new digital post offices have already been opened. The government has so far received more than 20,000 applications for franchise opportunities, out of which 1,000 have been selected for establishing the new post offices this year.
The Digital Franchise Post Offices will provide financial services along with postal services by using state-of-the-art technology, and the ministry also plans to digitize the old post offices too, according to several reports.
The Digital Franchise program aims to provide direct employment to over 250,000 people in three years and aims to bring Pakistan Post toward profitability, according to a report from Tech Juice.
