New Zealand Post (NZ Post) is set to process an anticipated 41.5 million letters and parcels over the December festive period, including 20% more parcels compared with the same period in 2016.
The postal service company had employed an extra 600 staff, 200 vans and 13 line-haul trucks, in addition to operating an extra 737 aircraft to meet the heightened volumes of mail being processed.
The hike in delivery volumes for the festive season has been further boosted by popular sale days such as Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
“We started to see the growth in early November, with our busiest days already reaching over 2.7 million items in the network,” said Mark Stewart, NZ Post’s chief operating officer.
“Being ready for Christmas has been a priority as we know how much it matters for people. We’ll be pulling out all the stops right up until the last delivery day, which is the last Saturday before Christmas.”
NZ Post recommends customers send their mail and parcels within New Zealand by December 19 for Standard Post, ParcelPost and ParcelPost Tracked. Items being sent by FastPost, Courier Parcel and Courier & Signature Parcel need to be sent by December 20 for Christmas delivery.
