In response to an amendment to the Postal Market Act, Austrian Post will now deliver letter mail in 2-3 working days as standard from May 1,2025. A ‘premium’ service for next working day delivery will be available for an additional €0.30 (US$0.31) on the cost of each mail item type.
“Fewer and fewer letters are being sent in Austria,” said Walter Oblin, CEO of Österreichische Post. “Over 80% of all letters are already sent within two to three working days. With this simplification, we are adapting our product range to the Postal Market Act and the changing needs of our customers.”
The standard letter can be franked with stamps and posted directly in one of the approximately 14,000 yellow letterboxes. The additional premium service can be booked and posted directly at the counter at a postal partner, in a post office branch or at a dispatch station.
From May 1, the price for the smallest letter format, the Letter S, will be €1 (US$1.04). The additional premium service can be combined with other additional services such as registered mail.
