Logistics company Whistl has opened a Parcelhub depot in Smethwick, near West Bromwich, to expand its Parcelhub brand into the West Midlands in the UK.
Parcelhub now covers both East and West Midlands, South Yorkshire, East London and Essex and will look to support e-commerce businesses in Birmingham, Coventry, Dudley, Sandwell, Solihull, Walsall and Wolverhampton from the new depot. The company expects 14 jobs to initially be created with the opening of the depot, with more opportunities expected. Roles available include depot management, collections drivers and warehouse operators.
The depot been designed to offer small and medium-size enterprises (SMEs), mid-market online retailers and brands in the West Midlands a more regional and personalized service with local collections and consolidation of their parcel volume through one point of contact rather than multiple carriers. Customers will be served by Parcelhub’s electric van fleet with electric charging infrastructure installed into the depot as part of the fit out of the site.
Alistair Cochrane, CEO Whistl, said, “Due to the demand from customers in the West Midlands for our localized Parcelhub service, we are pleased to open the new 14,000ft2 depot in Smethwick. We will be serving the area with our new electric vans which will further enhance our ability to help customers meet their sustainability targets.”
