GLS Belgium has opened a new delivery depot in Wijnegem that will be responsible for deliveries to Antwerp as well as the northern and eastern parts of the suburb.
The 5,735m2 depot can process up to 10,500 parcels a day and will employ 26 members of staff. Located near the E34, E313 and several regional roads, the new depot will take the strain away from the Puurs depot, about 30km away.
“Our package quantities have increased significantly in recent months,” said Luc De Schrijver, managing director at GLS Belux. “Our continuous investments in our network are the cornerstone for high-quality deliveries and enhance our service to our customers and their customers. Thanks to the new location, we are once again shortening our already competitive delivery times.”
According to GLS, the Wijnegem depot’s location means shorter last-mile delivery routes and a reduction in CO2 emissions, which fits with GLS’s KlimaProtect strategy and its plans to offer climate-neutral deliveries through the implementation of electric delivery vehicles in city centers in the future.
