To enhance its logistics capabilities in Germany, FedEx Express has opened a new logistics facility in Kabelsketal, close to Leipzig/Halle Airport.
The new 17,000m2 facility will help FedEx Express cope with increasing consignment volumes, particularly in the larger customers’ segment. It features a 3,400m2 warehouse with six loading bays for lorries, 63 for vans and six for 7.5-metric-ton trucks.
Sorting capacity has been doubled compared to the previous facility and a new loading and unloading concept has reduced traffic in the warehouse and thus the risk of accidents at work.
A suburban railway connection close to the site ensures good connections to the cities of Leipzig and Halle, and there are also 12 charging stations for delivery vans and six for employees’ cars.
“We are supporting our customers in the region with their growth ambitions,” said Stefan Dries, vice president, ground operations, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Nordics, FedEx Express. “The site in Kabelsketal is well equipped for increasing shipment volumes in both freight and parcel.”
The new building in Kabelsketal is the fourth location in Germany that FedEx Express has opened in the last 18 months. Following the opening of the Nufringen station in early summer 2022 and the modernization of the air gateway in Stuttgart in spring 2023, the company expanded and modernized the site in Karlsruhe at the end of January.
