Singapore Post (SingPost) has opened up its island-wide POPStation network enabling lockers to be rented by anyone, 24/7, providing an innovative last-mile delivery option to blogshop owners, marketplace sellers and consumers.
The new Rent-a-POP service enables sellers to rent a locker to deliver their items at a location previously agreed with the buyer. Upon confirmation of the rented POPStation locker, the seller can drop off the parcel directly at the terminal without having to arrange for courier delivery or meeting up with the buyer. The buyer will then be sent a notification and can collect the parcel anytime within the rental period, at their convenience.
Users can rent from approximately 140 POPStation locations in Singapore, including commercial and neighborhood areas such as shopping complexes, community centers, post offices and universities.
The rates for Rent-a-POP are dependent on the number of rental days and the size of locker selected, with three sizes available, but typically begin at S$4.90 (US$3.60) for two days.
Lim Ann Nee, senior vice president, SP Parcels, SingPost, said, “Rent-a-POP continues to revolutionize last-mile delivery for the growing e-commerce industry. SingPost is the first in Singapore to offer an island-wide open parcel locker service. Since the inception of POPStation, we have seen how smart lockers have given retailers and consumers parcel delivery flexibility that caters to today’s busy lifestyles. We welcome the Singapore government’s federated locker system initiative to ease last-mile delivery challenges for small parcels.
“Opening up our POPStation for rent encourages the development of a sharing economy. We optimize our resources as retailers and consumers can deliver parcels to a rented POPStation at their convenience. Recipients can collect their parcels easily near their homes or offices.”
SingPost’s POPStation terminals have been equipped with centrally controlled systems and surveillance cameras, enabling all parcels to be tracked and monitored. Users receive a unique one-time PIN and QR code, which ensures that only the intended users can access the POPStation locker. Users of POPStation also have access to 24/7 customer support.
