Finnish postal operator Posti is to open the largest parcel locker in Europe in early March in the Munkkivuori shopping center in Helsinki.
The current, large parcel locker space will be turned into an OmaPosti kiosk, doubling the number of available lockers. After the expansion, the facility will have 1,002 lockers, making it not only the largest in Europe but also one of the largest in the world. Currently the largest Posti Parcel Locker is in the city of Tampere, with the world’s largest lockers found in Finland, China and Germany.
Posti notes that lockers are now the most popular way of receiving items in Finland: 87% of the population received a parcel through a locker at least once in 2020 compared with a global average of 40%.
“The Parcel Locker capacity and parcel routing are among our most important development areas this year. We constantly monitor the situation in different areas and customer feedback concerning parcel pickup and search actively for new customer-serving solutions. The expansion in Munkkivuori is a good example of this,” said Arttu Hollmérus, SVP parcel and e-commerce at Posti.
