Norway now boasts the longest parcel locker network in Europe thanks to a nationwide rollout by postal operator Posten Bring, with 6,000 self-service parcel lockers – or Pakkeboks – available in 2,000 locations.
According to Pakkeboks’ supplier Swipbox, Posten Bring has set several records since the first locker was installed in 2020 – the world’s northernmost Pakkeboks, located in Longyearbyen, and the network with the largest geographical distance in Europe, measuring 2,300km from Lindesnes to Longyearbyen.
“Since the first parcel locker was deployed at the beginning of 2020, both popularity and usage have exceeded all our expectations,” commented Thomas Støkken, executive vice president of e-commerce and logistics at Posten Bring. “With self-service boxes in the community that can be used around the clock, we have made everyday life easier for many people.”
At the beginning of 2020, Posten Bring had 1,565 pick-up points in Norway, but since then the number has more than doubled. Today, there are 3,700 manned and self-service collection points, which corresponds to an increase of 136% in just over four years.
“We have been working at a high pace on this project to respond to the great demand for more parcel boxes from both online retailers and customers. Customers can now send and pick up parcels from more than 85,000 slots in 6,000 different parcel boxes at 2,000 different locations in Norway,” continued Støkken.
According to Posten Bring, 59% of the population in Oslo live less than 500m from their nearest parcel box and 40% of the people in the city use Pakkeboks to receive parcels. The Grane municipality in Helgeland has the highest use with just under one parcel per inhabitant delivered from Pakkeboks.
