Dutch postal operator PostNL and Polish locker specialist InPost have installed automatic self-service parcel lockers at railway stations across the Netherlands and in Amsterdam Schiphol Airport.
The parcel lockers, known locally as Pakketautomaten, will feature in rail stations in Amsterdam, The Hague, Utrecht, Breda, Eindhoven, Leiden and Almere, as well as Schiphol Airport, and will be located where they can be accessed 24/7, further increasing their ease of use by commuters.
Rafal Brzoska, CEO of InPost parent company Integer Group, said, “The rapid development of e-commerce provides a massive opportunity for both postal and logistics operators. To take full advantage of this it is crucial to adapt to market needs and implement solutions that are effective, competitively priced and, most importantly, convenient for users.
“In our opinion, self-service terminals fit these criteria perfectly and we are confident that parcel lockers will be very popular in the Netherlands. Cooperation with PostNL reaffirms the effectiveness of the solutions offered by InPost and gives us crucial experience for fulfilling our plans of further expansion in foreign markets. The Dutch post office is amongst the largest players in Europe and a partner we really value. The contract with PostNL includes rental of terminals, which will operate under the brand Pakketautomaten.”
To use the lockers customers simply select the locker delivery service when placing their online order and then choose a locker address at a convenient location. The customer will then receive an email or SMS message with a unique code that can be used to access their delivery.
