European parcel service operator GLS is teaming up with smart locker technology provider Bloq.it to expand its locker network across Europe, starting in Italy and Spain.
The agreement was closed at the recent Parcel+Post Expo in Amsterdam, where the two companies aligned on the shared vision of accelerating the adoption of smart lockers in last-mile logistics.
The initial pilot, which will go live as early as March 2025 with Bloq.it’s off-grid Next locker, is part of a larger-scale initiative for GLS to heavily expand its locker fleet across its main European markets.
“This partnership marks a significant step forward in our mission to accelerate the adoption of out-of-home deliveries in the last mile,” said Miha Jagodic, CEO at Bloq.it. “Having GLS as a partner shows us we are moving in the right direction, and it’s an honor to be trusted by yet another industry leader.”
The GLS group already has over 90,000 OOH points – a mix of parcel shops and smart lockers – across multiple European countries. Under the new strategy, GLS wants to heavily expand this number over the coming years.
“This collaboration is a testament to our commitment to growth and excellence in the last-mile delivery space,” added Johan Holstein, last-mile director at GLS.
