Parcel lockers continue to grow in popularity, and this is the driving force behind DHL’s decision to expand its out-of-home delivery network in Sweden by 1,000 lockers this year.
The company will use the white-label locker solution of its partner iBoxen and will focus on metropolitan regions in the country. The expansion is part of DHL’s global strategy to strengthen its capacity and capabilities in the e-commerce sector.
“E-commerce is constantly evolving, and at DHL, we are evolving alongside it,” commented Robert Zander, CEO DHL Freight Sweden & Nordics. “As we expand our presence in the Swedish market, we aim to make a lasting impression on consumers. The introduction of a significant number of parcel lockers marks the first step in our efforts to enhance accessibility and provide a stronger offering to e-retailers and consumers. We want to be the natural first choice for shippers and shoppers.”
As parcel volumes continue to rise in Sweden – by nearly 9% in 2023 according to the Swedish Confederation of Transport Enterprises‘ Parcel Index – consumer behavior is also evolving and there is a growing demand for different delivery options, with an increasing preference for parcel lockers.
Zander explained, “We are addressing the evolving consumer demand for diverse out-of-home solutions through our e-commerce initiative in Sweden. Leveraging our expertise, quality and local network in both B2B and B2C, along with our comprehensive international offering, we have a solid foundation that allows us to expand our services and ultimately increase customer satisfaction.”
