The Universal Postal Union will hold its World Leaders Forum (WLF) at Parcel+Post Expo 2020 (the sister show to Parcel and Postal Technology International magazine) in October, with the UPU saying the forum will be a powerful platform for the postal community to express their voices during turbulent times.
David Dadge, UPU’s program manager for communication and events, described 2020 as “momentous for all the wrong reasons”.
He said, “Given the fact that the Universal Postal Union was unfortunately forced by the pandemic to postpone the Universal Postal Congress, there is a pressing need for the world’s postal community to get together and to discuss lessons learned and best practices.” He added that the WLF offers a perfect platform for the postal community and the UPU remains committed to holding the event.
Given the tumultuous effects of governments’ reactions to the ongoing pandemic, Tony Robinson, the CEO of event organizer UKi Media & Events, said, “I can assure participants that this event will be a highly valuable exhibition experience. Difficult times, potential huge investment in new systems for automation and delivery at every level, and a conference for which the importance has been raised from high to essential.”
He also reinforced that both the WLF and Parcel+Post Expo will follow host country Austria’s latest advice regarding health and safety during the Covid-19 pandemic. “Austria has fared well throughout the health crisis. Mask-wearing has been re-imposed, but there is currently no reason to believe there will be any ongoing issues in October other than a requirement to apply sensible measures that we are now all getting used to.”
