The Future Leaders Program, which was launched at Post-Expo Hong Kong in May, has proved a great success with 20 talented young managers from six different countries taking part in the new international event. The program is run by Derek Osborn, business coach at Whatnext4u, and Graeme Lee, consultant at Sunflower Associates.
The aim of the accelerated learning program is to help equip ‘rising stars’ in the postal industry to become the international leaders of the future. “For this they will need to understand the strategic context of the global postal and logistics sector and how it is rapidly changing,” explained Osborn. “They also need a broad range of industry knowledge to enable them to operate at an international level and also to build a strong international network of contacts and relationships.”
The program also focused on leadership skills and included advice from two senior and acknowledged industry leaders. In addition, the event included information on practical skills such as team working, effective planning, project management and prioritization.
During the program, the group was divided into four teams; these teams will continue to work together over the next few months on different strategic projects. These projects cover diversification, reinventing the post, sustainability and regulation. The teams will report back on the outcome of their projects at the 5th Asian-Pacific Postal Union Postal Business Forum, which will be held in Bangkok, Thailand, on November 28-30. It is hoped that the best of these projects will be presented at the next Post Expo event in Geneva, Switzerland, in September 2017.
