Emirates Post has upgraded its public PO Box service, allowing residents and visitors to have a common PO Box address for receiving mail via post offices in the United Arab Emirates.
The move by Emirates Post hopes to encourage more people to use the service, and is part of the operator’s strategy to take a larger share of e-commerce deliveries, a sector that is expected to boom in the region in coming years.
Each post office in the UAE has a unique public PO Box number, which consumers can provide to senders of mail and parcel such as online retailers. When a person is expecting mail, they can go to the registered mail counter at the post office and collect the mail after paying the specified fee. The charges for the service depend on the type of mail and its weight, and need to be paid each time there is a mail delivery.
Obaid Mohammed Al Qatami, acting chief commercial officer of Emirates Post, said, “Emirates Post is pleased to enhance the public PO Box service with new features, because we believe it brings great value-addition to e-commerce as a cost-effective last-mile delivery option for those buying products online.
“As we have a large network of post offices spread across the UAE, we are in a strong position to cater to the needs of a segment of population that does not own individual PO Boxes.”
The service is targeted at people who do not have their own PO Boxes such as visa holders, working residents who have privacy reasons, sailors and other non-residents who want to have an address in the UAE.
