Cross-border e-commerce specialist B2C Europe has published a guide to help online retailers reduce the rate of returns.
The guide is based on research into the shopping habits of European consumers, which highlights the importance of the returns process and the part it plays in deciding whether or not consumers complete an online purchase.
Key findings from the research found that 54% of respondents think about returning an item before they have completed the purchase; 27% of consumers will not purchase from a foreign online store if the cost of returns is high; 23% will not purchase an item from an international website if the returns policy is unclear; and that 36% of European shoppers would be more likely to shop on an international website if there was certainty about the returns policy.
To help tackle some of these challenges, the returns guide offers comprehensive solutions to increase customer satisfaction and reduce the likelihood of returns. This includes enabling customers to write reviews on products, implementing online sizing solutions and making improvements within the warehouse operations.
The survey was conducted by marketing firm Bluebeez with 2,442 respondents from the UK, France, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Germany.
