Dutch postal operator PostNL has introduced a new ‘Delivery by appointment’ service where online customers can select a delivery window at the moment of purchase. De Bijenkorf is the first retailer to offer the new service on its online store.
By selecting the delivery option ‘Delivery by appointment’, the customer can choose the exact day and two-hour time slot during which PostNL will deliver the parcel. PostNL believes that customers will be more likely to make the purchase online, rather than in store, if they are allowed to choose their own delivery window.
Pieter Heij, director, omnichannel, De Bijenkorf, “Delivery by appointment perfectly suits the premium service we want to offer our customers. Shoppers now have a wide choice of delivery options, from standard free delivery and next-day delivery to evening and Sunday delivery, and now also delivery by appointment. We’re happy to be able to expand our service in collaboration with PostNL.”
PostNL already delivers seven days a week, in the evenings, and on the same day. Furthermore, consumers can pick up or send parcels at 2,800 PostNL locations. The company is also testing the neighborhood parcel and letter machine for sending and receiving parcels.
