UK-based same-day courier service CitySprint has announced the launch of its new ‘Pharmacy to Home’ delivery service. The new offering from the courier’s healthcare division is designed to help pharmacies improve the efficiency and security of patient medication deliveries.
Launched at the Pharmacy Show in Birmingham, UK, the new cost-effective service will help pharmacies harness CitySprint Healthcare’s nationwide logistics infrastructure for prescription deliveries.
It comes as the company calls on pharmacies to draw on the example of other sectors, such as retail, that have used fulfilment technology to streamline operations and offer an improved service to customers.
Darren Taylor, chief development officer for CitySprint Healthcare, said, “Pharmacies face a number of serious challenges, from increased competition and cuts in funding, to rising expectations of convenience amongst patients.
And where other sectors have used delivery technology to transform operations and improve user experience, pharmacies could get left behind. Too many pharmacies are using taxis or other informal delivery arrangements, effectively letting medicines fall out of their control.”
CitySprint Healthcare’s Pharmacy to Home service builds on the company’s existing presence in the pharmaceutical industry and includes the collection of scripts from doctors’ surgeries, and the delivery of patient medication from local or nominated pharmacies to homes, care homes and prisons. The new offering will also include a full audit trail and tracking to monitor the real-time location of pharmacy deliveries.
Not only will live insights allow operators to flex delivery routes and manage emergency journeys in real time, but by analyzing data retrospectively via a reporting suite, pharmacies will be able to improve productivity.
“We’ve been working in secure, time-critical healthcare deliveries for many years, so we understand the unique demands of this sector,” added Taylor.
“Our ambition is to remove the logistics and compliance headache from pharmacies and allow them to focus on patient care and profitability. With the focus on delivering improved and integrated primary care in local communities, this is increasingly important.”
