Canada Post has opened its first three concept stores equipped with self-service shipping stations and parcel-drop boxes, enabling customers to prepare and send parcels at a time convenient for them.
Customers simply select the desired service, scan the items for weight and size, pay with credit or debit card and then print the shipping label. Once the label is applied, customers scan the parcel and place it inside the secure drop box. They are then given a confirmation receipt with online tracking information.
Some concept stores offer enhanced features, such as an on-site fitting room with full-length mirror where customers can try clothing purchases right away, and arrange to return whatever doesn’t fit.
To further enhance convenience, drive-thru parcel centers enable customers to collect their parcel without having to leave their car. They simply scan their receipt at the welcome kiosk and then collect the parcel from the pick-up window. If the item is heavy or bulky, staff will place it in the vehicle.
The new concept stores also possess several other features, including free wi-fi and vending machines selling stamps, prepaid envelopes and shipping supplies. There’s also space for other retailers to participate in pop-up shops or temporary outlets.
Doug Ettinger, chief commercial officer, Canada Post, said, “Canada Post delivers two out of every three parcels Canadians order online, which means we’re quickly becoming the trusted face of thousands of online retailers.
“These new stores signify the importance we place on that relationship and the need to evolve to serve Canadians’ changing postal needs.”
Canada Post currently operates three full scale concept store locations in Richmond Hill, Ontario; Edmonton, Alberta; and Vancouver, British Columbia.
