Belgian postal operator bpost has suspended sending letters and parcels outside Europe due to coronavirus causing mass flight cancelations.
Services are being suspended from today (Thursday, March 19, 2020), and bpost warns that intra-European flows may also be affected or delayed.
To reduce risk in its post offices, bpost is urging people to limit visits and use alternatives such as red mailboxes for mail, parcel dispensers, and cash machines for withdrawals and deposits of money.
Jean-Paul Van Avermaet, CEO of bpost, said, “In these difficult times, the presence of bpost for citizens takes on its full meaning. From the newspaper delivered every morning until the payment of pensions, the services at our counters, the card or letter delivered to people who have been isolated: each task that bpost carries out creates solidarity and breaks the isolation of the most vulnerable in society.”
