Australia Post is delivering Woolworths Basics Boxes of groceries to vulnerable customers across the country.
The boxes cost A$80 (US$50) including delivery and contain meals, snacks and essential items.
Following the launch in Australia Capital Territory, the service will be initially rolled out across New South Wales and Victoria, followed by other states.
The boxes provide essential products to customers unable to visit grocery stores, including the elderly, disabled, those with compromised immunity and people in mandatory isolation.
Christine Holgate, group CEO and managing director of Australia Post, said, “As with our new Pharmacy Home Delivery Service, we are continuing to explore ways to help the vulnerable and serve our country. We are working tirelessly to look at how we can use our unrivalled national network to deliver some comfort to those in need, while we all go through this challenging time.”
She added, “Australia Post remains open for business. Our posties and drivers are still out delivering each and every day and our Post Offices are open and play a vital service in the community, particularly in regional and rural Australia.”
Brad Banducci, CEO of Woolworths Group, said, “We’re working at pace to reshape our business, and thanks to the support of the likes of Australia Post, we will be able to better service those in self-isolation.”
Once an order has been placed, customers will receive updates on the delivery from Australia Post via text message or email.
