Spring Global Delivery Solutions (GDS), the international subsidiary of PostNL, has opened its new UK hub at London Heathrow, marking a major step in enhancing cross-border shipping capabilities.
The 30,000m2 facility can process up to 40,000 parcels daily. It prioritizes sustainability, with 256 solar panels powering the site, and an EPC rating of -8 A+, setting a new benchmark for eco-friendly logistics, according to Spring GDS.
Kelly van der Weg, managing director of Spring GDS UK, emphasized the UK’s strategic importance, noting last year’s €500m (US$520m) turnover and 40% year-on-year growth in commercial volume. “Our sustainable new Heathrow facility allows us to scale alongside our customers while delivering efficient, eco-friendly logistics solutions for UK e-tailers,” she said.
The company currently employs 100 UK-based staff, and said the facility has the potential to double its workforce and will reinforce its role as a key player in international e-commerce.
