International R&D company Omnic has announced that it will invest €7m (US$7.5m) in a new locker manufacturing facility and local office near Milan, Italy, as part of its ‘glocal’ strategy.
The company chose Italy as the location to start production due to its extensive logistics routes, which allow fast and convenient delivery of orders throughout Europe. Omnic plans to hire 50 full-time employees by the end of 2024.
“Italy represents both an ideal combination of production capacity with its advanced manufacturing infrastructure and opportunities for the development of green energy,” said Ann Snitko, chief product officer at Omnic. “Italy is one of the sunniest countries in Europe, and it is also among the leaders in the development of alternative energy in the region. Since sustainability is a priority for us, all this makes Italy the perfect place for our new factory, which we plan to make 100% carbon neutral by the end of the year.”
The 4,000m2 manufacturing facility will be equipped with European robotics machinery and an Italian painting line.
Omnic already has 24,000m2 of production facilities, with two factories that are 100% solar-powered, in line with the company’s commitment to carbon-free manufacturing.
Production at the facility is expected to start by the end of Q2 2024, with a capacity of approximately 5,000 locker units per year. Together with the Omnic manufacturing facilities in other countries, the annual volume of produced lockers is expected to reach 30,000.
Omnic is an R&D company that creates and implements self-service solutions for clients in the logistics, e-commerce, retail and HoReCa (hotel, restaurant, and café/catering) sectors.
