Italian postal operator Poste Italiane has acquired 15% of Telecom Italia (TIM) from Vivendi SE as part of its efforts to consolidate the Italian telecommunications market.
Upon completion of the €684m (US$740m) acquisition, expected by the first half of 2025, Poste Italiane will hold 24.81% of the ordinary shares and 17.81% of the entire share capital of TIM, becoming its largest shareholder. The post does not intend to acquire a stake exceeding the relevant mandatory public tender offer threshold.
The operator is already in advanced stages of discussions about granting PostePay – a company wholly owned by Poste Italiane – access to TIM’s mobile network infrastructure from January 1, 2026.
Poste Italiane is also looking to diversify its business and establish industrial partnerships to generate synergies between the two companies across the telephony, ICT services and media content, financial, insurance and payment services, and energy sectors.
