Baltic Post, the courier division of national postal operator Lithuania Post (LP), has entered the pharmaceutical logistics market by installing modern temperature maintenance and control technologies in several delivery vehicles. The carrier eventually plans to install the systems in 100 delivery vehicles, allowing it to transport up to 400 tons of pharmaceutical products per month.
Juozas Buitkus, head of Baltic Post, said, “We are one of the first courier services in Lithuania to begin transporting pharmaceutical products in accordance with strict requirements established by both the European Union and Lithuanian legislation. So far pharmaceutical preparations have only been transported by companies operating in the pharmaceutical logistics field, providing special conditions for certain temperature maintenance.
“However, from now on, LP couriers can also guarantee that transported pharmaceuticals are protected from ambient temperature fluctuations.”
The new control systems will allow Baltic Post carriers to maintain temperatures between 2ºC and 25ºC, providing ideal conditions for the transportation of pharmaceutical products as well as other temperature sensitive goods such as cosmetics.
