PostNord Denmark plans to provide greater value for customers by investing in a new Danish e-commerce hub that will provide a full Third-Party Logistics (TPL) service with later cut-off times and next-day delivery.
The new Køge hub, near Copenhagen, will feature a 25,000m² (269,000ft²) terminal with advanced high-speed sortation systems, located next to a 31,000m² (334,000ft²) TPL warehouse.
The energy-efficient loop sorter from Beumer Group has been fitted with four parcel singulators enabling it to sort up to 19,000 items per hour. The parcels from the TPL warehouse are transported by automatic tipper containers to the terminal where they are fed into the singulators as a bulk flow of parcels. The singulators convert the bulk flow into a single stream of evenly-spaced parcels and will automatically detect items which are side-by-side, overlapping, or that are out-of-gauge for automated handling.
The system’s flexible discharge and chute configuration further adds support for faster throughput and shorter sorting windows. PostNord will retain ownership of its business logic for the IT and control systems integrated into Beumer Group’s Software Suite.
Peter Kjaer Jensen, CEO at PostNord Denmark, said, “PostNord has relied on the proven reliability of Beumer Group systems since 2009 and plans to install more of these systems to enable our customers to excel in meeting the demands of the evolving e-commerce market.”
