UPS has announced that it will be expanding its Access Point parcel collection network to 100 cities in the USA, allowing customers to collect their parcels from nearby locations once the initial delivery has failed. Alternatively, customers can also opt to have parcels delivered to an Access Point location as a primary address.
The new Access Point locations include: Dallas and Houston, Texas; Denver, Colorado; Los Angeles, California; Minneapolis, Minnesota; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Seattle, Washington; St. Louis, Missouri; and Miami and Tampa in Florida.
UPS Access Point locations are typically local businesses such as neighborhood convenience stores, dry cleaners and delicatessens with extended evening and weekend hours. All 4,400 UPS store locations are also part of the network.
This year’s UPS Pulse of the Online Shopper study found that 33% of online shoppers wanted their packages sent to locations other than their home. This figure was 26% in 2014, showing a rising preference for alternate delivery locations.
Alan Gershenhorn, executive vice president and chief commercial officer, UPS, said, “We listened to consumers who said they were not buying online because they didn’t have a secure delivery location. By providing local options, we are improving the e-commerce delivery experience, which helps retailers and UPS.”
By the end of 2015, UPS expects to have more than 8,000 UPS Access Point locations in the USA and 22,000 globally. International locations include Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Mexico, Poland, Spain and the UK.
