Online retail delivery provider Mondial Relay, a subsidiary of 3Si Group, is investing 15m (US$16.3m) to automate its 24 delivery offices across France. Work began in late 2015 with the automation of Mondial Relay’s branches in Lyon and Nice and will continue until 2017.
When complete, the improvement works will allow Mondial Relay to better cope with peak volumes arising from Christmas and the holiday sales, ultimately providing an improved service for retailers and customers.
The project will boost the company’s production capacity through the installation of state-of-the-art parcel sorting and tracing solutions, as well as systems to check the weight and volume of each parcel. Mondial Relay’s offices in Lyon and Nice have already seen an improvement in capacity of approximately 40%.
Antoine Pottiez, chairman of Mondial Relay, said, “This scheme will enable us to increase our flows processing capacity, to keep our parcels safe and secure, and to deliver a higher quality service to our customers. We’re sending out a strong signal to other market players, confirming the trust placed in us by online retailers. We would not have been able to implement this transformation of our branches without the exemplary way in which our teams have worked on this large-scale project. What’s more, all of our teams have been keen to welcome the changes to their departments as well as the new responsibilities that these developments entail.”
Mondial Relay is set to automate its remaining branches in Nantes, Lieusaint, Toulouse, Metz, Saint Ouen, Rennes, Brive, Valence, Bordeaux, Blois, Lille, Montreuil, Reims, Caen, Rouen, Chambéry, Marseille, Clermont-Ferrand, Dijon, Montpellier, Metz and Strasbourg.
