Post-Expo is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and in honor of the occasion, event organizer UKIP Media and Events will be hosting a drinks reception on day one (May 24) of Post-Expo Hong Kong. The reception will take place from 4:30pm in the exhibition hall and will be sponsored by Chinese delivery provider SF Express.
During the reception, Tony Robinson, CEO of UKIP Media and Events, will take to the stage to talk briefly about 20 years of Post-Expo, and how and why he looks forward to the next 20 years.
“The world postal industry. Gigantic! That was one of my first thoughts as I explored the possibility of launching an international magazine and then a global exhibition for postal technology and systems,” said Robinson. “What I wanted to create was a technology showcase at a time when a revolution was just starting.
“The internet, that was the revolution which, as we know 20 years later, changed the face of the world’s postal industry beyond any early expectations. It was 1995/6 when we started to peer into the post world. One emerging technology was the potential for handheld data capture for parcel delivery; another was OCR for high-speed mail sorting automation. Posts were exploring the possibility of endorsing emails. Others were making early forays into online shopping. Amazon was selling books.
“Over the years Post-Expo has been synonymous with the progress of technology and is indisputably the world showcase for the technologies which are the drivers of change and new opportunities both for posts as service providers and businesses, and for customers who can now monitor the progress of their purchasers from dispatch to delivery and even potentially now expect same-day delivery, even on Christmas Day.
“There have been a few years over our watch when the pace of change has been slow. But the next period will be fascinating and fast changing. We are about to see autonomous delivery vehicles, robots and drones take responsibility for the first and last mile. It will be Post-Expo’s second window on revolution within which we will be the place where the technologies will be presented for the first time, showcased and demonstrated. Simultaneously, all the latest information will be presented and discussed in the pages of Postal Technology International. We are excited by what we see. Join us for the next 20 years!”
