As part of its ongoing technology transformation, Austrian Post has rolled out over 11,000 new handheld devices for its delivery staff, enabling workers to work more efficiently and comfortably.
The devices, which have been rolled out across Austria since February, are more ergonomic and enable workers to easily scan parcels and obtain signatures from recipients. The post has invested almost €9m (US$9.82m) in the new hardware and software.
“The new handhelds are an important building block for the digital transformation of Austrian Post,” explained Walter Oblin, deputy CEO, member of the management board for mail & finance, Österreichische Post. “We are creating a new digital infrastructure that will enable our delivery staff to handle Austrian Post’s product and service portfolio on a daily basis, from parcels with online orders to voting cards and front office deliveries. Our employees and, subsequently, our customers will benefit from this technological boost.”
The new Zebra TC 27 handhelds also create the basis for future service expansions such as card payment directly with the delivery person; district and route planning; route guidance; and the control of post reception boxes.
Ongoing in-house software developments and updates ensure a high level of IT security, while the hardware and software also enable the development and integration of additional applications.
